Meet Apocalists: The Inventory App That Helps You Outlive Your Groceries

Welcome to the first post on the Apocalists blog. If you have ever lost a can of beans to the back of a shelf or had to toss out some mystery yogurt from the fridge, you know why I built this. Apocalists is here to help make sure your supplies, whether they are rice, fresh veggies, or tactical snacks, do not end up in the trash.
So what does Apocalists actually do?
Scan and Search Barcodes
Apocalists lets you scan barcodes to add items to your lists in seconds. It uses Open Food Facts (credit to their amazing open database) to pull in the product details. So if you scan the barcode on your can of chickpeas, the app will grab the name and details automatically.

If a barcode is not in the database, no problem. You can add the item manually so you still stay organized.
Create Multiple Inventories
You can set up as many inventories as you like:
- Pantry
- Fridge
- Freezer
- Bug-out bag
- Grandma’s bunker
Each inventory can have its own reminder timer. For example, you might want to be warned about fridge items one or two days before they expire, but get a heads-up about pantry goods like rice a few weeks ahead of time to plan meals.

Group Items with Categories
You can also create your own categories. Maybe you want to group all your pasta together or separate emergency rations from everyday food. Categories make it easier to stay organized instead of ending up with one giant spaghetti pile of items.

Works Offline (Mostly)
Apart from searching for new barcodes, the whole app works offline. Anything you have scanned before is saved to a local database, so you do not have to rely on the internet when checking your supplies. If the world goes dark, you can still keep tabs on your beans.
What’s Coming Next
Here is a look at what is on the roadmap:
Manually adding any type of product, like your EDC kit, bug-out bag, or car gear, without needing a barcode
Exporting inventories to a PDF for printing
And probably more ideas once folks start sending feedback
That is it for this first post. Apocalists came out of my own struggle with forgotten supplies, and I am looking forward to seeing how you all use it. Feel free to reach out if you have suggestions, complaints, or a prepping horror story to share.
Stay stocked, stay sane.
